As the upcoming regatta approaches, it is important to note that water quality testing will be conducted prior to the event to ensure safety.
Here are some sensible health precautions to keep in mind:
-
NEVER drink untreated water, nor use it for cooking, washing cooking and eating utensils, or for personal hygiene.
-
AVOID swallowing or inhaling water if you swim or accidentally fall in.
-
DO NOT let cuts or grazes come into contact with the water, fish, or wet animals.
-
MAINTAIN the same hygiene standards for handling and eating food and drink outdoors or on a boat as you would at home.
-
IF YOU FEEL UNWELL within a few days of contact with untreated water, visit your doctor immediately. You may have contracted Weil’s Disease, a specific health risk from untreated water. Common symptoms include high fever, flu-like illness, and joint and muscle pains, particularly in the calves. Inform your doctor about your recent boating activities and request a blood test for Weil’s Disease.
Stay safe and enjoy the regatta!
