In fact welcome to the Regatta, which first happened in 1973.
If you’ve not been before, do come. It is a unique event on the Thames – a mix of serious races, ridiculous things to do on water, land based competitions, entertainment and fun for all the family.
We go on into the evening with charming live music by the riverside. Each year all our surplus income goes to local charities.
Next Regatta: SATURDAY 17th AUGUST 2013
Depending on the number of entries, usually races start at 9am- and continue every
5 minutes until 5.30pm with an hour’s break for lunch usually between 1pm – 2pm.
Fun racing on the Thames
in traditional and modern boats
The water based racing includes everything from rowing skiffs, canoes and punts to rafts (built in the lunch hour), dongolas and the popular bath race.
Many of the races are traditional English boats and less well known formats. However there are plenty more where the events have a fun twist.
The competitions are all very friendly and its a “purely amateur” turnout that comes to race.
People of all abilities and ages compete for the trophies, winners mugs and the sheer fun of messing about in boats.
Land based activities
On the land there are lots of activities.
- The beer tent is always popular
- There are stalls from lots of local charities and organisations selling cakes, books, scooters and lots more besides.
- Bumper cars, a bouncy castle
- land train to keep the children (and adults) entertained.
The last event of the day is the Raft race, always a riot and a great spectator sport. the raft teams build their craft at lunchtime and then race the course from the chaotic mass start.
As the sun goes down, the evening entertainment starts
Then the evening entertainment starts…..The tent is cleared and the band sets up for a great night of dancing, singing and a glass of beer.
Come and join us for a great summer day out.
